The need for more equipment on emergency scenes required the increase in fire apparatus size and specialty. Dedicated ladder, hose and tanker trucks were placed in service. Larger buildings required more GPM’s for fire suppression so pumps and engines became larger. As a result, moving most of the cab ahead of the front tires became commonplace to aid in maneuverability of apparatus through city streets.
