Do this job for any length of time and a few patients will stick with you. Maybe we talk about them, maybe we don’t but they are landmarks in our memory of calls gone right and calls gone wrong. At the end of the day, I don’t know how much of an effect our interventions have on actually saving a life. Statistically the numbers are extremely low for many reasons. Don’t forget these patients, they likely taught you something that makes you a better provider, but don’t let them haunt you. Find some help if they do. Talk to someone. Stay safe.
